Dr. Allen Reuben Anderson

Dr. Allen Rueben Anderson age 99, retired Dentist and lifelong resident of Crosby passed away March 29, 2017 at Heartwood Senior Living in Crosby after a full and active life in the community. 

 

“Doc” Allen Anderson was born on July 10, 1917, the youngest of 12 children to Crosby pioneers Hans and Anna (Gullberg) Anderson and on whose farm iron ore was discovered in the early 1900’s and where Croft Mine was established.

 

He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School and the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.  He served as a Army Captain in World War II at Scott Army Air Base in Belleville, IL.  He was an avid sportsman participating in the community in golf, bowling, trapshooting, hunting and fishing as well as well as a being a very accomplished bridge and card player.

 

Doc Anderson was a founding Board member and past President of the Cuyuna Range Medical Center Authority, and a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was the oldest living life member of the Myrin-James American Legion Post # 443 in Ironton and was a past champion golfer at the Cuyuna Country Club in Deerwood.  Doc participated in many, many other community organizations, most of which held leadership positions.  Doc spent many winters in Mission, Texas.

 

Doc is preceded in death by his parents, eleven brothers and sisters, Edna Syreen, Oscar Anderson, Alfred Anderson, Olga Sparks, Anna Anderson, Carolyn Edwards, Crofton Anderson, Mabel Foarnelle, Ethel Ames, Myrtle Ahl and Edith Schrock; son-in-law, Brian Skone, and his wife of more than 57 years, Elsie J. Bodie Anderson.

 

He leaves his wife, Joy Case of Crosby; four children and their spouses; Sharon Skone of Ocala, FL, Bonnie and Harold Fellerman of Maple Grove, Jerome and Maridel Anderson of Crosby, Jo Anne and Gregory Smith of Crosby, twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Saturday April 1, 2017 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby.  Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby with full military Honors given by the Myrin James American Legion.  Visitation will be on Saturday from noon until the time of services.  Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.  In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Home Of Our Troops or Folds of Honor.
