James Howard McCalvy age 83 of Brainerd was called home on June 22, 2017 at the Mille Lakes Health System in Onamia.  He was born in Garrison Township on March 25, 1934 to Howard and Margaret (Olsen) McCalvy.  Jim graduated from the Crosby-Ironton High School, class of 1953.  He married LaVonne Abbott on September 16, 1955.  He served in the National Guards 256th artillery and 47th Aviation. He was enlisted in the Army and served as a medic stationed at Madigan Hospital in Tacoma, WA.  Jim was employed as a millwright with the Ford Motor Co. with 30 years of service.  He was a member Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison.  He sang with the churches Joyful Noise and enjoyed lending a helpful hand.  Jim loved his family and many friends and enjoyed fishing, hunting, baking cookies and his birds.

Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, LaVonne; daughters, Cindi Peterson (Gene Mackedanz), Lori Eckel, Brenda (Dave) Freerks; a son, Donald (Janette) McCalvy; one sister, Norma (Julius) Matson and a brother, Dallas (Terry) McCalvy; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Preceding Jim in death are his parents; one sister, Marcia McCalvy.

Funeral services will be 12:00 pm on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison with full military honors given by the Garrison VFW.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.  Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
