Kathryn M. “Katy” Johnson age 93 of Ironton died on Monday, January 15, 2018 at her home.  She was born on August 23, 1924 in Sidnaw, MI to Oscar and Olga (Anderson) Provost.  Katy graduated from the Crosby-Ironton High School, class of 1942 and then attended the Crosby Junior College.  During the war Katy went to Hastings, Nebraska to build bombs for the US Navy.  She married Warren Eugene Johnson on February 15, 1948.  She worked at the Crosby Telephone office as a switchboard operator until her children were born, managed the Ironton Legion, and was an employee of the Crosby Clinic for 30 years before retiring to care for her elderly father.  She was then an aide at the Cuyuna Range Elementary School.  For ten years she was “Grandma Katie” for the elementary school.  Katy’s greatest love was children.  She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby, the church’s Ruth Circle, the Myrin-James American Legion Auxiliary and the Ironton Library Board.

Katy is survived by one son, Dr. Greg (Susan) Johnson of Lowell, MI; three daughters, Linda (Denny) Peterson of Deerwood, Irene Johnson of Ironton and Ilene Rae (Les) Ollila of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Frank (Freda) Provost of Independence, MO and Chuck (Nancy) Provost of Deerwood; three sisters, Verona (Al) Schroeder of New Richmond, WI, Carol Dionne of New Hope, Terry Williams of Remer; sisters-in-law, Donna Provost of MN and Ramona Provost of Shelton, WA;  seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Katy in death are her parents; her husband, Warren in 1965; one step son, Craig Skorich; a grandson, Steve Ollila; a great grandchild, Sean Drennan; and two brothers, Jim and Don Provost; a sister, Lois Fort and two brothers-in-law, Raymond Dionne and George Williams

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby.  Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby.  Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby and one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.  In lieu of flowers memorial are preferred.
