Melverna “Shorty” Mickelson age 89 of Deerwood died at her home on December 31, 2017.  She was born on September 6, 1928 in Pine City to John and Merle (Leslic) Kilgore.  Shorty was a retired Honeywell employee with 29 years of service.  She was a longtime summer resident of Black Hoof Lake.  She was a member of the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Auxiliary, the Garrison VFW and the Eagles in Minneapolis.

Shorty is survived by longtime friend, Darlene Peterson of Deerwood; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Shorty in death are her parents and one brother, Edgar Kilgore.

A memorial service will be held 1:30 pm on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby.  Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Irondale Township.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.  Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
