Donald Peterson Obituary

Donald E. Peterson age 80 of Deerwood died at his home on May 3, 2019.  He was born on January 21, 1939 in the old Miner’s Hospital in Crosby to Edward and Ida (Duzan) Peterson.

Don graduated from the Crosby-Ironton High School and then went to the Brainerd Jr. College for 2 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran.  Don worked various construction jobs until he became employed for 36 year with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Upon his retirement Don started collecting old snowmobiles and was an avid deer hunter.  He was a member of the Antique Snowmobile Society, the Antique Snowmobile Club of America, the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post #557 of Deerwood, and a Life Member of AM Vets Post 26.

 

Don is survived by his wife, Shirley of Hayward, WI; one daughter, Angela (Russell) Dahn of Maple Grove; two sisters, Patricia (Thomas) Klein of Sussex, WI and Judy Anttila of Deerwood; two brothers, Dennis (Andrea) Peterson of Grand Rapids and Randy (Karen) Peterson of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding Don in death are his parents; one son, Michael Peterson; one sister, Susan Peterson and brother-in-law, Ray Anttila.

 

A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby with full military honors given by the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post #557 of Deerwood.  Following the graveside service there will be reception at the Deerwood Legion from 2 to 4 p.m.  In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.  Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
