John Leslie Orr

John Leslie (Oman) Orr age 81 of Deerwood died peacefully at home on June 18, 2018.  John was born May 9, 1937 to Dorothy Oman.  He graduated from the Minneapolis Vocational High School. He served eight years in the National Guard.  John was the Local and international business representative for Lathers Local 190 from 1970 until he retired in 1995.  He was well respected by his peers for instituting a pension fund for Lathers, among many other things during his tenor.  As an international business representative, John attended the George Meany Labor of Law School.

John served as a chair person for the Minneapolis Park Board and the Long Range Planning Committee for 10 years.  Other memberships included Bay Lake Snow Packers, Bay Lake Lions Club, Road Dulars Car Club, and the Corvette Club.  John’s hobbies included fishing, golfing, snowmobiling, show cars, and drag racing. He won over 75 NHRA championship races in his younger years.  John was also very active in and very passionate about politics, advocating for fairness for all.

John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marlys Orr; children, John Orr Jr., Carrie (John) Keehn, and Louis (Rhonda) Orr; grandchildren, Jennifer, Riley, Katie, and Abbie; one great grandchild, Jasmyn; his siblings, Peter, Roberta (Mike) Pumila, Phil (Bonnie) Orr, Curt Orr, Odell (Kelly) Orr;  special friends, Sharon Rush and Patrick Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding John in death are his grandparents, John and Ada Oman; his mother Dorothy (Oman) Orr; and a daughter in infancy, Betsy Ann Orr.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood (21276 Archibald Road).  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
