Mary McCutchan Obituary

Mary Alice McCutchan (nee: Spruill) age 89, of Crosby died on November 10, 2018 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.  She was born in North Carolina on November 16, 2018 to Noah and Mae (Furlough) Spruill. The oldest of 8, she cared for those younger, helped in family businesses, then went to work for Western Union in Norfolk, Virginia.  It was there that she met, and later married a young sailor named Thomas Blaine McCutchan.  They relocated to Minneapolis, it was there that they raised their children, in the Brooklyn Center area.  After retirement, they traveled extensively.  Mary hit 4 continents and Hawaii.  She and Tom volunteered a Feed My Starving Children, Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army, church programs and others.  They were honored by Center Point Energy, The Salvation Army and the City of Brooklyn Center for their volunteering.  After being widowed, Mary moved to the Crosby area. She has been a resident for the past 8 years. She attended the Deerwood Baptist Church, where she made many new friends in the area.

 

Mary is survived by her daughter, Denise (Dr. Edward) Rosenbaum of Deerwood; son, Blaine (Rita Mays) McCutchen of Brooklyn Park; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; three brothers, Noah Jr. “Buddy”, Sterling and Frankie Spruill; and two sisters, Joyce Davis and Betty Pledger all of Virginia. 

 

Preceding Mary in death are her husband, Thomas; and two brothers, Bobby and Jack Spruill.

 

A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Deerwood Baptist Church in Deerwood.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.  There will also be a service at the Minneapolis Unity Church, (4000 Golden Valley Road, 55422) at a later date.
