Richard E. Hawley

Richard E. Hawley age 73 of Emily passed away on February 21, 2019 at his home.  He was born August 15, 1945 in Crosby, Minnesota to Deward and Bertha (Straus) Hawley.  Richard married Joanne Wagner in Minneapolis on November 23, 1966.  He was a retired employee of Graphic Packaging in Crosby.  He was a former employee of General Mills in Minneapolis, Scorpion Snowmobile and Cuyuna Engine both of Crosby.  He was a member of the Myrin-James American Legion #443, Ironton.

Richard is survived by his wife, Joanne; three sons, Cory Hawley of Atlanta, GA, Darin (Saima) Hawley of Eden Prairie and Raymond (Leah) Hawley of Kimball; two daughters, Carie Pitassi of Emily and Shauna Carlson of Deerwood; one brother, Norman “Rusty” (Nan) Hawley of Emily and four sisters, Faye Traynor of Tucson, AZ, Lynn Glenn of Emily, Retha “Billie” Hawley of Merrifield and Kris Olson of Noaky Lake; and ten grandchildren.

Preceding Richard in death are his parents; and three sisters, Elda Miltz, Trilby Witter and Marietta Andrews-Meachem. 

“My loving husband, my wonderful father, my sweet fun grandpa, my brother, my uncle, my friend. You were always there when we needed you. You took joy in making your family feel safe and warm. You were the old growth in the forest of our family, and you toppled before your time. We’ll miss you like no other. But whenever we’re together, laughing and playing games, we’ll catch a glimpse of you over in the corner, that twinkle in your eye, knowing that all is well and as it should be.”

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019 at The Wesleyan Church in Emily.  Burial will be at a later date at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Emily.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.  Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
