Alex Dale Sutton

November 9, 1957 — September 1, 2014

Alex Dale Sutton went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 1, 2014 at his home in Emily surrounded by his family. He battled cancer for eight months with resilience and hope. He displayed courage and honor during his suffering, as he did throughout his life. Alex was a volunteer fireman for the Emily Fire Department for 26 years. He served as an Assistant Fire Chief and other positions for the department. He cared about the town of Emily and contributed to the community. He was a former Emily Charter School Board member and was one of the leaders in the founding the Emily Charter School. Alex owned and operated Quality Fabricating Inc. since 1981. He established a successful company with dedicated workers.

Alex's generosity included sharing the Canadian experience with others by hosting family and friends at his cabin in Canada. If you've ever met Alex, you've heard "Howdy, do you want to go to Canada?" He truly enjoyed teaching children to love the outdoors, having shore lunches, fishing and water tubing rides, and riding on four wheelers and snowmobiles. He owned and operated Caliper Lake Lodge in Nestor Falls, Ontario, Canada. Most of all, he loved time spent with his loving wife Donna, family and friends. He married the love of his life, Donna in Maui, Hawaii on May 28, 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; 1 son, Brandyn Pelphrey of Emily; 4 daughters, Trista Sutton of Brainerd, Chelsea Sutton of Brainerd, Macayla Pelphrey of Belfield, ND and Makenzie (Geoffrey) Adams of Brainerd; his mother, Mary Lou Sutton of Deerwood; 1 brother, Sid Jr. (Faye) Sutton of Shafer, MN and 1 sister, Cindy (fiancAC., Rich O'Neil) Sutton of Aitkin; 3 grandchildren, Malena, Akeley, and Ezra.

Alex will be greeted in heaven by his father, Sid and a sister, Leona Jensen.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at The Log Church in Crosslake. Burial will be at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Emily. Visitation will be held on Friday at The Log Church from 5 to 8 pm and on Saturday, 1 hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
