Alvin Doonan, 85, of Deerwood passed away peacefully with his wife by his side.
He was born May 3, 1940 in Willow River to Basil and Lillian (Randall) Doonan, graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School class of 1958 and joined the Navy serving his country for 4 years. After his military service, he came home to Minnesota and eventually returned to his hometown. He married his wife Jan and they spent 41 years enjoying motorcycle rides, car shows, swap meets, auctions and traveling. He was a great handyman and spent many happy hours puttering in his wood shop refinishing furniture and creating church bazaar projects. His family loved benefiting from his skill in various home improvement projects. He will be remembered for his great hair, wit, and dry sense of humor.
Al was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby and the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443 of Ironton.
Preceding Al in death are his parents, two brothers, James Cook and Bob Doonan; three sisters, Eleanor Isle, Judy Doonan and Flora Warp and two children, Christina and Justin.
Al is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jan; his children Anne (Brad) Holland, Brian Bartels, Heidi (Perry) Meyer; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, siblings Shirley Meyer and Rose Seeley, and many loved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby. Military honors will be presented by the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
