Arvilla "Arvy" Marie Hansen age 92 of Crosby formerly of Ironton died on June 25, 2014 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. She was born on May 4, 1922 to Arthur Nicholas and Villa Marie (Clint) Hansen. Arvy graduated from Minneapolis North High School Class of 1939. She was a U.S. Navy veteran. After serving in the military she earned a BA degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Arvy was newspaper editor fro the Crosby-Ironton Courier from 1950 to 1965 and 1976 to 1984, retiring in 1984. She was also a regional editor for the Brainerd Dispatch from 1965 to 1976. Arvy was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443, Ironton, the Ironton Commercial Club, and the Croft Mine Board.
Arvy is survived by 1 niece, Jeanne (Michael) Bower of St. Cloud; nephew, James (Michelle) Hansen, of North Mankato; Sister-in-law, Helen Hansen of North Mankato; her special friend Alice Leighton's children, Susan (Curtis) Stendel of St. Francis and Margaret "Peg" (Jim) Glodek of New Brighton and their children.
Preceding her in death are her parents; step-mother, Orvetta Hansen and 1 brother Arthur Hansen; and special friend Alice Leighton.
Funeral services will be 11:30 am on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby with full military honors given by the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443, Ironton. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
