Avis M. (Erickson) Nelson, 65, of Ironton, passed into the hands of our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Avis was born in Ironton on June 28, 1945 to Sally (Tatro) and Alex Erickson. She married the love of her life, Orville Thomas Nelson on October 25, 1963. Avis loved cooking and serving with the ladies of Immanuel Lutheran. She served at the Soup Kitchen and was involved with the Youth Center. There was not a weed to be found in Avis's beautiful flower gardens, and her collection of ceramic angels cannot be out numbered. Avis was also a member of the Sons of Norway Sagtun 18. She is survived by her loving husband, Orv, of 47 years. Her daughter, Robin (Steve) Anderson of Fort Ripley, son Rick (Lori) Nelson of Aitkin and son John (Christina) Nelson of Ironton. She truly adored her grandchildren, Justin (Jeanette) , Joe (Nicole), Josh, Nikki (Joe), Zach, Brett, Jolie, Breanna and Lydia; her great grandson, Brandon. Avis was the youngest of thirteen children. She is survived by her siblings; Katie (Albert) Cavin of Ironton, June (Dale) Bronstram of Pequot Lakes, Judy Alcox of Ironton, Dolores Peterson of Crosby, and Dick (Marilyn)Winn of Ironton. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sally and Alex and siblings; Alex, John, Francis, Florence, Lawrence, Gertrude and Yvonne. Funeral services will be 11 am on Monday, March 21st at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Irondale Township. Friends may call at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby on Sunday from 4 to 7 pm and on Monday 1 hour prior to the services at the church.
