BETTY JANE SEVERSON Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 PM, November 30, 2013 at Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood, Minnesota. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby Betty Jane Severson, age 88, of Chisholm formerly of Crosby, died Monday, November 25, 2013, at Cornerstone Villa in Buhl. She was born May 27, 1925 in Eagle Grove, Iowa to Fred Galatia and Nellie (Jones) Brisbin. The youngest child of eight children. She attended the Methodist Church there and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School with the class of 1943. She was very active with the drama and music departments in high school and was the only girl in her chemistry class, which caused problems because her teacher did not believe "girls" should be taking chemistry. She married Marvel T. Severson on February 3, 1946 and they farmed near Goldfield, Iowa. In 1950 they left a productive farm life and moved to the beautiful Brainerd Lakes area and settled on a farm along the Mississippi River north of Merrifield. She began working outside of the home at St. Joseph's Hospital in Brainerd and then at the Cuyuna Range District Hospital in Crosby as a physical therapy aide. In 2009i she bravely left her beloved community to move to Chisholm to be closer to her daughter and family. She loved cooking, baking, canning, gardening, fishing, her church work and most especially singing. She loved sharing her wonderful soprano voice in community choirs, church choirs, any choir and mostly at special occasions such as weddings and funerals. She is survived by her daughter, Ann (David) Olson and their children; Disa, Mark and Jake and their families, her son Marty's children Sara, Robin, Steven and Rian and their families, one sister; Ruth Hanson of Eagle Grove, one sister in law; Ruby Woodbury ,her daughter-in-law, Sandy and her children; Bobbi Jo, Kathy and Delores and their families, her former daughter-in -law, Ann (Mesabi) Severson, many nieces and nephews and many, many friends and acquaintances. She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, her husband Marvel, her son Marty and two grandchildren Tina and Michael.
