Byron Albert Ringhand age 84 of Deerwood died on May 2, 2015 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. He was born March 21, 1931 in Crosby to Albert and Alice (Magee) Ringhand. Byron was a lifetime resident of Deerwood. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He married Joan Mary Rehberger on September 10, 1960.
Byron was a member of the Deerwood Blue Blazer Basketball Team and helped teach and coach basketball at the Deerwood Elementary School. He was a Former member of the Deerwood City Council and the Deerwood Fire Department. He served as a past commander and member of 60 years for the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post #557 in Deerwood. He was a former member of the Deerwood Civic and Commerce and the Crosby Chamber of Commerce. He was a former superintendent of the Cuyuna Country Club, giving 21 years of service. Together with his wife Joan, they owned and operated the Deerwood Supermarket, Crosby Furniture and an area janitorial service.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joan; 3 sons, Mark Ringhand of Sartell, Scott (Kerry) Ringhand of Eden Prairie, and Todd (Jennifer) Ringhand of Rosemont; 1 daughter, Cindy Elliott of Crystal; 1 brother, Tuck (Karen) Ringhand of Deerwood; and nine grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents, 1 brother, Ron; and 4 sisters, Patty Westman, Ann Ravnik, Alberta Eichmann and Naomi Libby.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am on Friday, May 8, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Deerwood. Burial will be at the Deerwood Scandia Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
