Charles Andrew Rono age 81 of Crosby died on September 20, 2014 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. He was born in Crosby on June 8, 1933 to Ole and Olive (Ackmann) Rono. He married Joan Cory on May 8, 1954 in Smithland, IA. Charlie was a retired BNSF Railroad employee with 22 years of service and had a beef farming operation at his home. He was a US Army veteran and a member of the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443 of Ironton. Charlie was a member of the Mystic Masonic Lodge # 213 of Aitkin, the Woodland Chapter #122 Order of Eastern Star of Aitkin and the Scottish Rite, Duluth Valley. Charlie was a noted local accordion musician.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Joan; 2 sons, Charles "Butch" Rono Jr. of Crosby and Larry (Mary) Rono of Crosby; 1 daughter, Rita (Mike) Verdon of Dayton, MN; 4 brothers, Arnold (Jeannie) Rono of Anoka, Phillip Rono of Crosby, Francis (Lyndia) Rono of Anoka and Cecil Rono of Crosby; 2 sisters, Ellen Olson of Crosby and Rose (Jim) Blakesley of Aitkin; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents, 1 brother Ole E. Rono and 1 daughter-in-law, Rita Rono.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby with full military honors by the Myrin-James American Legion. Burial will be at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Emily. Visitation will be on Thursday at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby from 4 to 6 pm and on Friday 1 hour prior to the services at the church.
