Darwin Elliot Anderson age 76 of Garrison died on February 6, 2015 at the Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. He was born on March 19, 1938 in Wahkon, MN to Knute and Mamie (Dahlstrom) Anderson. Darwin married Janet Maureen Spence on February 10, 1962 in Deerwood. He was retired regional Forester with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources with 43 A½ years of service. He was a member of the Minnesota Forestry Association and was involved with the Minnesota Tree Farm Program. He was also a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Garrison. Darwin was a family man, and passed on a deep love of nature and the woods to everyone he cared for. He was gifted with his hands, producing beautiful woodwork, building his home, fixing anything mechanical-actually anything at all. He had a way with animals, and loved outdoor life, including hunting, fishing, boating, cutting wood, planting trees, and camping with his family.
Darwin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet; 2 sons, Jeffery (Kathy) Anderson of Anoka and Ryan (Erin) Anderson of Fairbanks, AK; 1 daughter, Yvette (Joakim) Monstad of Sudbury, MA; 1 brother, Howard (Meredith) Anderson of Wahkon; 3 sisters, Bona Bergman of Rio Rancho, NM, Helen Erickson of St. Anthony and Janet Brisker of Trinidad, CA; and seven grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents; 1 son, Erik Anderson; and 2 sisters, Betty Paulson and Elaine Zilmer.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
