Former Crosby resident, Georgia Johnson, age 83, died August 1, 2011 in Sedona, Arizona of complications associated with COPD and kidney failure. Georgia was raised by her mother, Nina, and grandmother, Selma, in Deerwood, Minnesota. Following high school in Crosby, Georgia graduated from the Minnesota School of Business. She was a secretary for many years and managed a shopping center in California. After living in New Mexico and California, Georgia returned to Crosby and started her own business, Crosby Office Exchange, providing bookkeeping and secretarial services in the area. She retired to Sedona, Arizona in 2006. Georgia loved Dachshunds and owned several. Her favorite pastimes were reading, crossword puzzles, and letter writing. She loved words and was a terrific speller. Her family and friends will miss her and her bright smile. Georgia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Pat of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Don of Anchorage, Alaska, and grandson Shane. A celebration of Georgia's life will be held at Koop Funeral Home in Crosby at 11:00 a.m. on August 20, 2011 with lunch following at the American Legion in Ironton. Georgia will be buried at the Scandia Cemetery in Deerwood next to her mother. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, sending monetary memorials to the humane society or a favorite charity in Georgia's memory.
