Gilbert H. "Gus" Nelson age 91 of Deerwood died at the St. Anthony Health Care. He was born on July 12, 1924 in Crosby to Harry and Edris (Carlson) Nelson. He was a WWII Merchant Marine. Gus married Rosalie Ruzich on March 8, 1952 in Deerwood. He was employed with Zontelli Brothers for 10 years, he was a truck driver with Nelson Trucking, Deerwood, and a cattle rancher. He was a co-owner with HGR Sod Farm in Aitkin. Gus was a member of the Westside Church in Aitkin.
Gus is survived by his wife, Rosalie; one brother, Hub (Frances) Nelson of Deerwood; two sisters, Dolly Sack and Delphi Glader both of Denver; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Gus had the unique distinction of being called an honorary grandparent to his many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents and two brothers, Roy Nelson and baby Wayne Nelson and sister, Lauraine Lundquist.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the Westside Church in Aitkin. Burial will be at the Deerwood Scandia Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
