Gilbert Wayne Rider

April 26, 1924 — March 19, 2015

Gilbert Wayne Rider age 90 of Ironton died on March 19, 2015 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He was born on April 26, 1924 in Mission Township to Richard and Rebecca (Wynn) Rider. He was the eighth born of twelve children. Gil married Betty Enemark on March 11, 1945 in Crosby. He was a WWII US army veteran. He was an iron ore miner, logger and worked at the Plastics Plant in Riverton for 6 years. However, most of his working life he was a carpenter. He worked with his brother in their businesses Bob n' Gil Rider General Contractors and Mautz Paint Store on Main Street in Crosby. Gil loved sports. He pitched fast pitch softball until he was 45 years old. He bowled on two men's leagues every week, pitched horseshoes on a team and loved the game of golf. He was a former president of the C-I Quarterback Club. Gil was a member of the Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood which he help build and the Mystic Masonic Lodge in Aitkin. Together with his wife Betty spent 13 winters in Tucson after they retired in 1986.

Survivors include one daughter, Bonita (William) Tasky, Duluth; two sons, Gregory (Sharon) Rider, Crosby and Brent Rider, Fargo, ND; one brother, Clarence Rider, Yuma, AZ; two sisters, Vietta Rude, Deerwood and Myrtle Bollenbacher, Crosby; 8 grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Kelm, Pine Center; Bill (Joni) Tasky, Hermantown; Monica (Art) Rissanen, Superior, WI; Michelle (Kent) Rengo, Duluth; Jason (Leah) Rider, Brainerd; Jeb Rider, Lansing, MI; Brynden Anderson (Lee Wallin), Moorhead; and Barrett Rider (Ashley Schmidt), Tualatin, OR and 9 great grandchildren, Dakota and Kaitlyn Kelm, Cheyenne and William Tasky, Austin Carmichael, Christopher and Zachary Rengo, Devin Rudolph and Gregory Rider.

Gil is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty in 2001; 5 brothers, Ernest, Richard, Leo, Jewel and Robert Rider and 3 sisters, Lois Peterson, Esther Cook and Edna Wolford.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Irondale Township with full military honors given by the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion post #557 of Deerwood and the Minnesota Military Funeral Honors Team of St. Cloud. Visitation will be on Friday at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby from 4 to 7 pm with a Masonic Memorial Service at 6 pm. Visitation will also be on Saturday 1 hour prior to the services at the church.
