James A. Johnson, age 91, of Crosby, Minnesota, passed away on September 10, 2026. Jim was born in Chisholm, Minnesota, and moved to Crosby at an early age. He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School, where he played football. He later attended Brainerd Junior College and continued his football career there. While in college, Jim met Sally Aker, the love of his life. They were married in October 1956 and were blessed with three sons: Mark, Scott, and Keith. Jim attended Dunwoody Institute and went on to work for Ellerbe Architects and Engineers in the Structural Engineering Division.
Jim treasured time spent with his sons through Indian Guides, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts. Together they enjoyed camps, canoe trips, and a memorable adventure to Philmont Scout Ranch. A devoted man of faith, Jim was active in both Portland Avenue United Methodist Church in Bloomington and Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood. Jim dedicated countless hours to service through a variety of fraternal organizations. He served the Masonic Lodge as Master, Grand Lodge District Representative, and Minnesota Grand Lodge Chaplain. He was also Wise Master of the Chapter of the Rose Croix, attained the rank of 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and was a member of Zuhrah Shrine in Minneapolis. Alongside Sally, Jim was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, belonging to Bloomington Chapter #307 and Woodland Chapter #122 in Aitkin. He served local chapters as Worthy Patron, and in 1992-1993 had the honor of serving as Worthy Grand Patron for the State of Minnesota. Following his retirement from Ellerbe, Jim and Sally sold their Bloomington home and moved to Deerwood. After several years there, they became residents of Heartwood in Crosby.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally; his parents, John and Anna; and his siblings, Wilmar, Helen, and Gladys.
He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Mark (Tami), Scott (Lisa), and Keith (Kelli); five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
