Reverend James Arthur Almquist age 86 of Brainerd died on December 30, 2013 at his home. He was born on March 30, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska to Arthur and Edna (Larson) Almquist. He was ordained as an ELCA Lutheran pastor with 60 years of parish and chaplain ministries. Serving the local congregations of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Crosby, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd; Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby and Essentia St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. Survivors include his wife Janet; daughters; Deborah (Glenn) Godsey of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Beckie (Randy Cole) Richards of Superior, WI and Linda Miller of Austin, TX; 1 son, MarkWeaver of Ironton; 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents; 1 daughter, Julie Stanich and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will 7 pm on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Visitation will be from 5 pm until the time of services at the church. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
