James (Jim) C. Dusbabek was born October 15, 1925, to Wencil and Alice Dusbabek in Rice County, MN. Jim grew up on his father’s dairy farm in Faribault, MN. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Jim served our country honorably in the Marines during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1562. Jim farmed for 20 years and was active in the NFO (National Farmer’s Organization) for 10 years, serving several southern Minnesota counties by recruiting and educating family farmers in collective bargaining to get fair pricing.
He married Barbara M. Schmitz, his loving wife of 65 years, and they were blessed with five children:
son David (Barb), and daughters Deb (Tom), Sharon (Jim), Jamie (Ed), and Jean (Barry).
Jim moved his family to Deerwood, MN in 1968. They became members of Our Lady of Fatima church in Garrison.
Jim established his business, Deerwood Tree Transplanting, in the Brainerd area, and ran it for 27 years. He retired at age 75 and moved to Garrison. He was a charter member of the Bay Lake Lions.
He is survived by his wife and children; nine grandsons: Joe, Dan, Myles, Edward, John, Abram, James, Jimmy, and Guy; nine granddaughters: Heidi, Megan, Rachele, Molly, Charell, Jolene, Jennifer, Jean and Barbara; and 46 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Betty Dusbabek, Mary Lou Schmitz, and John and Rosie Schmitz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
A private family mass is being held. Burial will be at the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Hillman. The family would prefer no memorials or flowers. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby
