Janet M. "Jan" Mehr

Janet M. “Jan” Mehr, age 86 of Brainerd died on November 19, 2023 at her home. She was born on December 25, 1936 in Roscoe, Minnesota to Leo and Gertrude (Hemmesch) Mackedanz. Jan married Art Mehr on July 14, 1956 in Paynesville.

Jan had a great love for family and supported them in every way possible.  She enjoyed spending time and playing cards with her siblings, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She also was an avid golfer playing in leagues and tournaments with friends and enjoyed fishing panfish with family.  Jan was an accomplished seamstress both when making drapes for her drapery business and beautiful hand stitched quilts for family and charities.  Jan enjoyed working with others and worked throughout her life including working at Yellow Medicine East School District cafeteria for over 25 years where she enjoyed getting to know the children she served and her coworkers that she worked with.

Jan is survived by her husband Art; three sons, Ken Mehr of Deerwood, Mark (Terry) Mehr of Aitkin and Dale (Debra) Mehr of Pequot Lakes; one brother Ferdie Mackedanz of Albany; four sisters, Ione Fuchs of St. Joseph, Dorothy (Leo) Leyendecker of Cold Spring, Delores Schwagel of St. Cloud and Joyce (Andy) Holthaus of Cold Spring; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Preceding Jan in death are her parents; two brothers, Danny and Charlie Mackedanz; one sister, Irene Albrecht; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Russell Mehr.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Visitation an hour prior to Mass, Friday, December 15, 2023 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Brainerd.  Burial will be at a later date. A Celebration of Life will follow the mass at Gather on 3 Event Center at the Woods in Brainerd. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
