Janice Romayne Paulson

March 11, 1938 — May 17, 2024

Janice Romayne Paulson, age 86 of Crosby passed away on May 17, 2024 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.  She was born on March 11,1938 in Fergus Falls to Raymond and Jeanette (Lundberg) Torgerson. Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Paulson and her parents.

Janice received her nursing degree and became a scrub nurse at General Hospital in Minneapolis during the early part of her professional life. Her love for the healthcare industry was a career that led her daughter Kristin, and granddaughters, Emily and Jana, to follow in her footsteps.

Janice was married to Harvey Paulson, who was President of Scorpion Snowmobiles in Crosby, and later, became General Manager for Arctic Enterprises in Thief River Falls.  Janice enjoyed traveling with her husband Harvey, her children, and eventually, her grandchildren. She visited 6 continents and more than 20 countries throughout her lifetime. Her love for travel led her to open, own and operate Paulson Travel Service with her husband, Harvey, in Brainerd, Minnesota for more than 20 years. PTS Tours, the motorcoach division of Paulson Travel, is now owned and operated by Janice’s son and wife, Erik and Tam Paulson.

Janice shared her knowledge, curiosity and adventurous spirit with thousands of other travelers in the area. But, her favorite place in the world always remained her cabin on Stark Lake in Aitkin, Minnesota.

Janice spent most of her free time and her last few years at her beloved cabin. She could usually be found on the patio in the afternoon enjoying the sun with her dog, spending time on the dock with her family or enjoying a beautiful sunset around the bonfire. The family cabin was her favorite place in the world and was where many fond memories were made. She always looked forward to weekends spent at Stark Lake with loved ones.

Janice was also an avid cook and baker who always had a kitchen full of family, friends or neighbors. Her favorite recipes were her famous homemade Italian spaghetti, fudge brownies, a variety of Norwegian and Swedish Christmas cookies and lefse. She enjoyed hosting holiday and birthday parties for those she loved and her memory will llve on through her recipes and family traditions.

Janice also enjoyed watching the Food Network and reading about American History. She was an active member of the communities where she lived in Iowa, New York and Minnesota. Janice was proud of her Scandinavian heritage and kept in touch with family members overseas for many years.

Janice supported her family wholeheartedly, in all of their endeavors, by attending church events, swim meets, choir concerts, dance recitals, graduations and more. She made every event a big occasion and made sure her family felt celebrated, appreciated and loved even in the smallest moments. Her children and grandchildren gave her strength, love and joy throughout her life. She was a proud “Nana” and even more proud of her family’s accomplishments and the relationships she had with them. They will hold her stories of her childhood, her husband Harvey, her travels and her life near to their hearts.

Janice is survived by her sons, Erik (Tam) Paulson of Brainerd, Thor (Mari) Paulson of Orland Park, IL: her daughter, Kristin (Ted) Blasko of Plymouth; two sisters, Carolee Hokanson of Ashby and Randi (Dennis) Hockert of Ashby and five grandchildren, Emily Blasko, Jana (Connor) Beaupre, Elizabeth Paulson, Andrew Paulson and Claire Paulson.

Waiting at the door to heaven was her beloved husband and the many dogs they had throughout their lifetime. She will be missed deeply by her family and friends, here on earth, who know that they will one day see her again.

Per Janice’s request, there will be no public funeral service. Instead, her family will have a private celebration of life at her favorite place on earth, the family cabin. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations in her memory, to the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Foundation.
