Jesse Howard Nix

December 15, 1940 — May 5, 2025

Jesse Nix entered eternity on May 5, 2025, surrounded by loving family. Jesse was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus and those who preceded him.   He was born December 15, 1940, in Aitkin Minnesota to Wayne and Jennie (Amos) Nix.

He graduated from Aitkin High School with the Class of 1958.  He kept in contact with classmates with monthly group lunch dates.  At age 17 he joined the Navy and sailed to many ports including Italy and Cuba.  He served 3 years in the Navy then 17 years with the Air Force where he served at many bases in the United States and internationally including Viet Nam, Panama, and Turkey.  He was a loving husband, family member, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He was a long-time member of the Emily United Methodist Church.  He served many years as Lay Leader and was a Certified Lay Speaker both at Emily and other area Methodist churches.  He was a proud member of the Ironton Myrin-James American Legion serving as chaplain at the time of his death.  He also took a turn as Commander of the Post in years past.  He served for many years with the Honor Guard. Jesse also supported other veteran groups meeting three times a week for coffee with other veterans in Brainerd.  He also supported the Homeless and Wounded Veterans organization.

Jesse was always a busy man.  He loved to plant gardens, berries, fruit trees, and flowers. He loved to travel.  He and Sue visited all 67 Minnesota State Parks and all but three of the State Recreational Areas.  They were able to fulfill his wish to travel to Ireland and traveled through many states.  Jesse was a fixer and took on many projects.  He always had a Plan A and usually B.  Sometimes C.  But he would fix whatever.  He was a good friend to many and was always available to help others when needed.  He would like to be remembered as a Christian man and did his best to live a life rooted in the Bible that he read through each year for much of his life.

He is survived by his wife Sue, daughters Shawn Nix, Alauna (Chris) Schroeder, and Teisha (Jeff) Banister, 21 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren, sisters Elaine (Les) Moser, Clare (Rick) Richardson, Edee (Darwin) Johnson, and Pat Chaffee, brother George (Dena) Nix, sisters-in-law Marlys Mongan and Mary Fletcher and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Stanley, sons Jay Nix and Gene Jones, daughter Treva Arzheimer and brother-in-law Wayne Chaffee.

Services will be held on Thursday, May 22 at 12:00 with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Emily United Methodist Church with military honors to follow.  A luncheon at the Emily City Hall will follow the service.  In lieu of flowers consider a contribution to the Ironton Myrin-James American Legion or a charity of your choice in his honor.
