Lieselotte "Lotte" Spiess

Lieselotte “Lotte” Spiess, age 82 of Emily went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2024.  Lotte was born on September 5, 1941 in Idar-Oberstein, Germany to Franz and Else (Wagner) Busacker.

Lotte married the love of her life, William “Bill” Spiess on July 13, 1964.  Bill was in the U.S. Army stationed in Baumholder, Germany.  Lotte immigrated to the United States in 1965 with Bill and their children.  They raised their children in New Brighton, MN.  She was a loving and devoted wife and sweet mother. Lotte and Bill retired to Emily.  Lotte’s greatest gift was the ability to make her family her top priority and showered them in love and prayers daily.

One of Lotte’s favorite activities was visiting Germany with Bill, her children and grandchildren and sharing her memories.  She documented her life in a series of essays entitled “Lotte’s Life”.  She loved dancing and enjoyed camping and was an excellent homemaker.  She started her own cleaning business.  All her clients became close friends.  Bill and Lotte were very involved in “Marriage Encounter” and “Cursillo” through the church.  Lotte coordinated the flowers for St. Emily’s Catholic Church for many years and sang in the church choir.  One of the highlights of her life was visiting Medjugorje and witnessing spiritual miracles.  She had a special love for the Holy Mother.  She was an exceptional wife, mother, oma and great-oma and will be deeply missed—until we hug again.

Preceding Lotte in death are her parents and her brothers, Oswald and Waldemar Busacker.

Lotte is survived by her husband Bill; four children, Sonja (Steven) Bornus, Andreas (Denys), Frederick (Bridget) and William (Melissa) Spiess; Lotte was Oma to Karina, Jake (Christy), Kristine (Robert), Brady (Hannah), Kaitlyn, Andrea, Emily and Iris; Great-Oma to Scarlett, Wyatt, Alex, and Ava.

Mass of Christion Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at St. Emiy’s Catholic Church in Emily.  A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Emily.  Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
