Louise Marie Hendrickson

Louise Marie Hendrickson, 69, of Deerwood, passed away on November 23, 2021 after a valiant battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

She was born on July 18, 1952 in Two Harbors, MN. She met Doug Peterson in Iron Hub, MN in 1973 and they married in 1975. They had two children, Ivy and Guy, to whom she was an utterly devoted mother. Louise lived to love her children.

The best way to describe Louise is to say she lived out loud. She was a gifted seamstress and musician. She sewed, stitched, knitted, and weaved for work and pleasure- both in self-employment for Sew Fine Sewing Service and Peterson Shoe Repair, and for 20 years in the uniform shop at Grand Casino Mille Lacs. She played the autoharp and bass guitar in various ensembles with Doug and others, and she played the cello in the Great River Strings Orchestra. On a whim, she once taught herself to play the accordion, and said the trick was embracing how silly you have to look while playing it. She was incredibly kind, accepting, and selfless.

Louise is preceded in death by father Lloyd and mother Leona. She is survived by husband Doug Peterson of Deerwood, children Ivy and Guy, children-in-law Alexander and Kyle, brother Fred, his wife Linda, sister Theresa, several nephews, nieces, cousins,  guard dog Jack Bowow, and many many other surrogate siblings, children, and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers or donations, please consider buying an unnecessary knick-knack from a thrift store, give someone you don’t agree with the benefit of the doubt, or send a loved one a funny baby or dog video. It is up to us all to try and bring a little bit of the joy and beauty into the world that will be gone without Louise in it. Thankfully, she showed us how it’s done.

A celebration of Louise’s life will be held at Koop Funeral home in Crosby on Wednesday, December 8 from 3-6pm, with a Sharing of Memories starting at 5pm. All are welcome.
