Margaret Mary Moen

Margaret Mary Moen, 71, of Deerwood, MN and Tucson, AZ died Friday, October 21, 2022 surrounded by her family. After a long battle with ALS, she succumbed to the illness in the comfort of her home.

Margaret was born May 17, 1951 in St. Cloud, MN, the daughter of Willard and Alvira (Maier) Schwinghammer. She grew up on a dairy farm in St. Cloud with her multiple siblings. After graduating from St. Cloud Tech High School, she became a nurse’s aid and ultimately got her LPN and RN while continuing to work. She married Michael Moen on June 4,1976 and they moved to Roseville, MN. She continued to work as an RN and they had their first child, Daniel. In 1979 they moved to Lake Elmo, MN and had two more children Joseph and Susan. She then went back to school to become a Nurse Anesthetist and got her Masters in Human Resources in 1995. She worked as a CRNA for the rest of her career, primarily at Woodwinds Hospital and Lakeview Hospital. In 2001 Mike and Margaret moved their family to Somerset, WI. Over the years they turned their 40 acres into a horse-lovers dream with a new barn and miles of wooded trails. In 2015 they started spending winters in Arizona and became a part of the community in Tucson. They ultimately sold the Wisconsin farm and moved to their home on Agate Lake in Deerwood, MN in 2021 where they lived until her passing.

Margaret is survived by her husband Michael Moen, sons Daniel (Kristy) Moen and Joseph (Jessica) Moen, daughter Susan Moen, granddaughters Mya Lowell and Isabel Moen, and Schwinghammer siblings: Rob (Joan), Dan (Judy), William (Cindy), Tim (Bonnie), Peter (Anita), Ruth (Chuck Toulouse), Loren (Kari), Paul (Barb Young), Charlie, David (Michele), Tom (Kim), Jerry (Lia), and Joan (Bruce Beckley). Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Willard and Alvira Schwinghammer, brothers: Tommy, Jim, Roger, and Johnny and sister Mary May.

A private family service is being held.  If desired memorials may be given in Margaret’s name to the ALS Foundation of Minnesota in lieu of flowers.
