On Nov 27, 2024 at 78 years old Marvin Raymond Miller stepped across the veil to join his loved ones who were waiting
for his return. Marvin was born November 19, 1946 in Crosby, Minnesota to Earl and Violet (Hartman) Miller. He Married
Donna (DeCent) on November 4, 1967 in Crosby, Minnesota. They have been happily married for 57 years. He was a
member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served faithfully in many different roles at church, but one his favorites was Youth Sunday School Teacher. He also helped to index historical records for the Family Search Website.
Marvin had a deep love for the outdoors. He was always the happiest in the woods. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially loved ice fishing and was always ready to take anyone fishing who was wanting to go. He loved to play games with his kids and go on bike ride adventures. The boys would always challenge him to run races and get disappointed every time dad would win.
He was drafted in the Army May 19, 1966 and did basic training in St. Louis Missouri. He served in Vietnam in the
12B20 Combat Engineer, and he was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with
Bronze Service Star, Expert (Rifle), and National Defense Service Medal. He was transferred to Company D 16th
Engineer Battalion 1st Armored Div. in Fort Hood, Texas and was sent to Chicago during the riots after Martin Luther King
Jr was assassinated. He was honorably discharged on May 17, 1968.
After his discharge from the Army he moved his little family back home to the Crosby area. Marvin got a job as a welder for Trail-A-Sled (which eventually changed to Scorpion). He worked in the old creamery building until they finished building the factory. He worked for Scorpion for years until the factory started laying off workers. He then got a job pulling up trail rails in Northern Minnesota. Coldest job he ever had. Then he found employment at Cedarbrook Manor as boiler technician and maintenance man. He helped keep some of the unruly patients in line so they would stop being mean to the nurses. Marvin eventually got a job at St. Joseph Hospital in Brainerd as Floor Care Maintenance Man and worked there for over 30 years until he retired.
During Retirement Marvin discovered the love of making wooden toys. He donated some to programs that help children
in need. Others became beloved toys of his grandchildren. His basement became his workshop and the walls are lined with his labor of love.
Marvin is survived by his wife Donna; two sons, Donnie (Kim) Miller of Kimberly Township, MN, Earl (Carolin) Miller of
Concho, AZ, Three daughters, Mary Miller of Brainerd, MN, Tammy (Aaron) Hagen of Aitkin, MN, Joanna (Tim) Odle of
