Age 91, born January 22, 1923, in Sycamore, IL. Resided in Edina, MN, for 54 years. Passed on to the Lord on June 25, 2014.
Mary Lou will be remembered for her grace, elegance, fun-loving Scottish-English humor, and love for her Lord and family. Mary Lou loved the arts, reading, travel, and putting! Her putting group was invited to St. Andrews in Scotland. She was one of the few remaining "greatest generation" and it showed. She appreciated everything in life. Mary Lou was also adventurous. While her husband was serving in the Army, she saved her money earned at Anaconda Wire & Cable to take flying lessons. She was a member of the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps and an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. For years, Mary Lou enjoyed Tuesday mornings spent with her friends at The Woman's Club of Minneapolis. Mary Lou left a legacy of service, giving, and love. She was by the side of her beloved Leonard throughout their 68-year marriage, and he was the love of her life. Philanthropy, generosity, and faith were at the core of Mary Lou and Leonard's life together. Many non-profit and educational institutions were, and are, recipients of their giving, including Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, numerous scholarship programs, and the Art Center at St. Olaf College.
Mary Lou will be remembered, cherished and loved "forevermore" (one of her favorite responses in conversations). Mary Lou is preceded in death by her beloved, Leonard, parents Melvin and Helen McIntyre, and brother Chandler McIntyre. Survived by her four children, Carol (Michael) Obst, Nancy Hoeft (Paul Lukens), Jo Ann Terriquez, and William L. (Anastasia) Hoeft, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, the Ziegler Inc. family, and numerous friends.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 10, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Avenue So., Minneapolis, with a visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church or the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
