Matthew Jerome Nelson

Matthew Jerome Nelson, age 50 of Wishek, ND passed away on April 15, 2025 unexpectedly at his home.  He was born on March 6, 1975 in Shakopee, MN to Wayne and Mary Ann (Carrigan) Nelson.  Matt grew up in Bloomington, MN and graduated from JFK High School, class of 1993.  He earned a BS degree in Biological Science from St. Cloud State and went on to pursue his Master’s degree at South Dakota State University.  He was employed as a Biologist with the U.S. Dept. of Interior Fish and Wildlife Service as a conservation technician on the prairie grasslands in Kulm, ND.

Matt is survived by his father, Wayne Nelson of Deerwood, MN; three brothers, John (Terri) Nelson of Loveland, OH, Anthony (Jennifer) Nelson of Fargo, ND and Luke Nelson of St. Cloud; two sisters, Ann (Steve) Thole of Bloomington and Amy Christensen of Sauk Rapids;

and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and extended family.

Preceding Matt in death are his mother, Mary Ann Nelson and twin nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Crosby at 11:00.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby with a luncheon following.  Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
