Ray Hustad Smith

Ray Hustad Smith age 91 of Deerwood formerly of Shorewood died July 18, 2013 at his home. He was born on September 30, 1921 in Austin, MN to Ray C. and Laura (Hustad) Smith. Ray was a WWII Navy veteran. He retired in 1984 as a vice president with Soo Line Railroad. He graduated from the Austin High School, class of 1939 and the University of Minnesota with a business administration degree. He received many honors during his lifetime and many honors from his family through his passing. He is survived by 1 daughter, Nannette (John) Tuthill of Deerwood; 5 grandchildren, Angelique, Andrew and Ashley Tuthill, Alex Smith and Megan Sheeran; 7 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Jim (Avis) Smith of Lakeville, Ralph Smith of Springfield, Ohio; 1 sister, Janet (Howard) Borchardt of Austin; and brother-in-law, Warren Oppegard of Lincoln, Neb. Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife Patricia; 1 son, "Smitty" and 2 sisters, Carol Oppegard and Peggy List. Funeral services will be 1 pm on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby with full military honors Given by the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443, Ironton. Friends may call on Monday 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. If desired memorial are preferred To the Bob Allison Ataxia Research Center at the University of Minnesota.
