Raymond Edward Anttila age 74 of Deerwood died peacefully surrounded by his family on October 7, 2016. Ray was born on April 2, 1942 in Minneapolis to Edward and Margaret (Tondo) Anttila. He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School in 1961. On April 20, 1963 he married Judy Peterson of Deerwood, Minnesota.
Over the years, Ray and Judy lived in Bloomington for 10 years. Upon the death of Ray's father, Edward, they moved back to Crosby to take care of his mother. Ray was a machinist/welder at Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in Brainerd, Minnesota for 31 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the outdoors.
Ray was a loving, generous, devoted friend, husband, father, and brother. He loved to visit with his friends and he enjoyed classic country music, especially Kenny Rogers. He loved animals and was always was bringing them home. Besides his family, he also leaves behind his best friend, Casino, his dog. The two of them were always together, even at the end.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents both maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Judy; his son, Edward and his wife Jessica Anttila, and their two children Hailey and Jordan; Daughter Rebecca and her husband Randy Schurmann and their son Charlie and his fiancAC. Tina McCarthy; Daughter Julie and her husband Dave Bayerl and their children Joshua, Samantha and her fiancAC. Keith Estes, and Ryan; Daughter Debra and her husband John Tibbetts and their son Matthew; Great Granddaughter, Presley Estes; sister Mary Alice Lutz; cousins, nieces and nephew.
The family would like to thank Immanuel Lutheran Church, Koop Funeral Home, doctors and caregivers at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center and Abbott Northwestern Hospital, and all the people who made phone calls, visits, and sent prayers during this time. We are truly blessed.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
