Raymond Paul Hawks

Raymond Paul Hawks age 84 of Crosby died on May 7, 2013 at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby. He was born on September 4, 1928 in Crosby to Roy Samuel and Joyce (Freeman) Hawks. Ray retired in 1991 after 27 years as a custodian for the Crosby-Ironton School District. He was a US army veteran; he was a lifelong member of the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post #557 of Deerwood, the Crow Wing County DAV. He served 22 years on the Housing and Urban Redevelopment Authority (HUD) board of directors. He spent most of those years as the Vice-President on the board. He was also a member at the Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood. On September 1, 1951 he was united in marriage with Juanita Winegarner. They shared 61 years together. Ray loved and enjoyed his family. Ray also enjoyed traveling and was thankful for the many trips he and wife were able to take. He will be greatly missed by his wife Juanita; son, Michael (Sheryl) Hawks of Apple Valley; 1 daughter, RaeLynn (Ronald) Ackerman of Green Lake WI; Grandson, Christopher (Sarah) and their children, Elizabeth, Alexander and Kaylee; Grandson, Matthew (Rebecca) Hawks and their children, Michael, Liliana Faye, Samuel and Sadie; Granddaughter, Samantha (Stefan) Mihaescu and their children, Shirel and Aaron; granddaughter, Stacey Ackerman 3 brothers, Gordon Hawks of Deerwood, Harold "Mike" (Darlene) Hawks of Riverton and Richard "Butch" (Shirley) Hawks of Mound; 1 sister, Evelyn Green of El Monte, CA; brothers-in-law, Rollo and Ron Winegarner. Preceding him in death are his parents and 4 brothers, Orval, Lloyd, Lawrence and Donald Hawks and Brother-in-law, Bill Green. Funeral services will be 1 pm on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby with full military honors given by the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post. Friends may call on Friday at the Cascade United Methodist Church from 11:00 am until the time of services. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
