Richard “Dick” A. Klancher of Crosby, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the age of 80, at his home in Crosby, cozy watching the fire in the fireplace and Serpent Lake begin the freeze over.
He was born to Tony and Muriel (Coss) Klancher on May 27, 1945, in Hibbing, MN. He graduated from Hibbing High School in 1964. He attended Hibbing Junior College and graduated from the Hibbing High School in 1964. He attended Hibbing Junior College and graduated from Salter Technical School (Duluth Area Vocational Technical School) in 1968. He met Sharrie Arola from Chisholm, MN at the Chisholm-Hibbing football game-huge rivals. He played football, hockey, and baseball, and she was a cheerleader at Chisholm High School. They were high school sweethearts, dating for four years and were married on November 26, 1966, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Hibbing, Mn. He finished school while she worked at Duluth Cathedral Catholic High School. After Dick graduated, they move to St. Louis Park, Mn where he worked at Honeywell, Northern States Power (NSP), and Stemer Lighting and Design as a designer. In 1974 they bought a home on Swan Lake in Pengilly, MN and he worked at Arthur G. McKee-Davy from London. When it closed Dick, along with several employees, started Noramco Engineering where he was a Senior Designer. He worked there until his retirement at 64. They lived on Swan Lake for 44 years until they moved to Crosby in 2013 to be closer to their son, Zachary, and their three grandchildren, Alysse, Jake and Dylan.
What Dick loved most in life with Sharrie was taking Zak and their grandchildren to Disneyland in CA and Disney World in FL, and mini vacations in Minneapolis to the Vikings game, Gopher Baseball games, the Twins games, and the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournaments. Dick and Sharrie were Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournaments. Dick and Sharrie were Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament ticket holders for 58 years. Dick loved to golf at Swan Lake Country Club, gardening, woodworking, and pontoon rides around Swan Lake. He never missed any of Zak’s or the grand children’s sporting or school events.
Dick is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon “Sharrie” Arola Klancher; son, Zachary “Zak” Klancher of Crosby; grandchildren, Dr. Alyssa (Derek) O’Brien, Hermantown, MN, Jake Klancher, Crosby, Dylan Klancher, NDSU/Fargo, ND; brother, Edward (Gracie) Klancher, Mexico; nephews, Tony (Lesa) Klancher, Joey (Kristy) Klancher; cousins, Klancher family (Jeannie, Betsy, Ron and Larry), Coss Family (Connie and Marcy), Clemens Family (Kathy, Trish, Pam and Betty-Jo), Scipioni Family (JoAnn and Mike); ex-brother-in-law, Bruce Dahlstrom, who was like a second brother; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carrie (Preston) Hawkins, Bob Arola (Carol Uchal), Barb Matich, Mike (Kay) Arola, Jeff Arola (Deb Belanger); Dick and Sharrie’s special friends, Booker Bolf, Skippy Bolf, Rick and Joanne Martier, Milty and Bonnie Latavala and Family, Mike and Sue Vidmar, David and Etta Caldwell, John Jankila, Prosnick Family, Patty Adams and Greg and Lynn Ewald.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, cousins Pat Clemens, Lonnie Scipioni, and Susie Scipioni, and Dick and Sharrie’s good friend Gracie (LaFrance) Schneider.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Moments Hospice and Frannie Kelsey and Natalie.
A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a brief service at 2:00 p.m. at Sammy’s Pizza (106 E Howard Street, Hibbing, MN.) Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby.
