Retired Technical Sergeant Richard D. Ullrich age 74 of Emily passed into glory peacefully Friday, the 7th of June at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. Richard was born on February 20th, 1939 in Beloit, Wisconsin. He joined the military at 18 years of age and spent his military career as a Special Operations Reconnaissance Technician. Richard served during both the Cold War and Vietnam; his skill came into play and was instrumental during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was awarded numerous decorations with the most notable being the Air Force Commendation Ribbon with a Presidential Unit Citation. He retired from the military in June of 1977 after 20 honorable years serving his country. Richard moved into the civilian sector and took the skills and leadership with him as he went to work for Honeywell/Alliant Techsystems as an Analyst, specializing in "Fail Analysis" and was quoted as one the best in the country. He retired after 22 dedicated years of work to their lake home in Emily, MN with his wife Dolores "Dee". He spent time enjoying their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and worked on becoming an intarsia master. To his family, Richard left behind a legacy built on integrity, loyalty and love; and is preceded in death by his parents Emma and Frank Ullrich. He is survived by his loving wife Dee of Emily; he leaves behind his sons, Don (Jennifer) Ullrich, Dennis (Annette) Ullrich, Richard (Debra) McNaughton; Thomas (Cindy) McNaughton and daughters, Dianna Ullrich, Pamela McNaughton, Terry McNaughton, Jane (Michael) Havisto and Cheri (Randy) Longsdorf. His 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren will greatly miss their time and love with their Grandpa "Dick". Funeral services will be 11 am Thursday, June 13, 2013 at St. Emily's Catholic Church in Emily with full military honors by the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443, Ironton. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery in Little Falls on Friday, June 14th at 12 pm. Friends may call on Wednesday, at St. Emily's from 4 to 7 pm with a prayer services at 6:30 pm and 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
