Robert LeRoy Thompson age 85 of Garrison died on October 2, 2013 at his home. He was born on August 15, 1928 in Garrison to Clifton and Naomi (Dike) Thompson. Bob entered the Air Force in 1950, he worked as a teletype cryptography mechanic. He married Muriel Faye Rubbelke on April 19, 1958 in Garrison. Bob owned and operated Bob's Trailer Park in Garrison and a launch service; was postmaster of the Garrison Post office for 30 years, retiring in 1981; was on the Garrison Fire Department for 30 years; was a Garrison City Council Member for 34 years (1962-1996), and was a member of the Garrison Lions Club; and he was a member of Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison. Survivors include 1 son, Ross Thompson of Brainerd; 2 daughters, Cathy (Larry Hovgaard) Thompson of Garrison and Lorri Svoboda of Brainerd; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife, Muriel; 1 brother, Buck Thompson; 3 sisters, Cleo Peterson, Carol Nickaboine and Ruth Hamilton; and great grandson, Hunter Thompson. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison Community Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 11:30 am until the time of services at the church. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
