Scott Ferris

Scott Ferris, who died July 5, 2013 was a resident of Portland, Oregon. Born on June 14, 1948, in Hibbing, Minnesota, he was raised in Duluth, and graduated from Duluth East High School in 1966. He received a nomination for appointment to West Point from then Senator Walter Mondale. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in business and went to work for Horton Manufacturing in Minneapolis after U.S. Army engineering service at Ft. Belvoir, VA. In 1979, Scott went to work for the Smythe Company, mechanical machinery manufacturers' representatives in Portland, Oregon. He became President of The Smythe Company, retiring in 2011. All his life, Scott had an active love for motorcycles. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Cyrus and sister Nancy. Surviving him is his wife of forty-one years, Susan Matheson Ferris, and a sister, Jane LeRoy of Austin, Texas. Several beloved nephews and one niece also survive him. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, July 10th at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby. A private committal will take place on Thursday, July 11th at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. A memorial service will be held 11 am on Friday, July 12th at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Duluth.
