Shirley Lavonne Goodwin

November 30, 1939 — August 28, 2025

Shirley LaVonne Goodwin went to her eternal rest on August 28, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Grand Forks, ND on November 30, 1939 to Alfred and Mildred Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Daniel W. Goodwin, son Jeffrey, parents, Aunt Lorraine and Uncle Ardell Jeffrey, her brother Maynard Johnson, and grandparents Peder and Lena Pederson.

She is survived by daughter Gayle (Jamie) Pund, Burnsville MN, son David (Monica) Goodwin, Deerwood MN, daughter Julie (Daran) Rife, Arvada CO, daughter Jenny (Wade) Heintz, Savage MN, and special nephew James (Pam) Goodwin, Lynn Haven FL. Grandchildren Daniel Pund, Kaylene Zickmund, Ceciley Potts; Jacob Goodwin, Will Goodwin, Annie Severson, Teresa Goodwin, Danny Goodwin; Jordan Rife; Emily Heintz, Rachel Heintz; Makaila Goodwin, Caleb Goodwin; 8 great-grandchildren; many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Shirley was the youngest of two children. She attended Central High School in East Grand Forks, MN. She was the Salutatorian and was active in music and theater. She was united in marriage to Daniel Goodwin February 20, 1960. Together they had five children and raised them in Grand Forks, ND. She was very involved in her church, choir, and community, and was an avid volunteer for ADA, hospice, community theater and United Lutheran Church. She was awarded the Grand Forks Woman of the Year in 1984. She and Dan relocated to Deerwood, MN in 1996 to be near family. Her charitable heart continued serving others in her new community.

Cherished memories include Christmas bread, lefsa, Swedish pancakes, dill pickles, and large family meals, with lemon drops always available for grandkids. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and playing Bananagrams.

She will always be remembered for her love of Christ and family, service to others, and generous hospitality. Shirley's legacy includes being an exceptionally loving wife, mother, grandma, and friend. She was a compassionate listener to all.

We will miss her bright eyes and sweet smile.

A Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.  Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.  In lieu of flowers memorial are preferred to Salem Lutheran Outreach.
