Stanley Andrew Clark

Stanley Andrew Clark, 67, of Emily, MN, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 1, 2016.

He was born on November 18, 1948, in Oneonta, NY, to Rev. Douglas Alan Clark and Ruth Campbell Clark. His early childhood years were spent in Morris, NY, and Hoopeston, IL. Stanley graduated from high school in Plainview, TX (1965), and earned his BA degree in Sociology with honors from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL (1969). He married fellow Wheaton grad Susan Lou Carlton on June 3, 1969, the day after their graduation, and then honeymooned in Emily, MN, where they eventually retired.

Stanley was awarded a full scholarship for doctoral studies at the University of Florida, earning MA and PhD degrees in Sociology (1971 and 1973, respectively). He then began a long career in higher education both as a faculty member and administrator. Institutions served included the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada (1972-1974); Gordon College in Wenham, MA (1974-1981); Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS (1981-1995); the Russian-American Christian University in Moscow, Russia (1995-1998); Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA (1998-2005); and Simpson University in Redding, CA (2006-2012). In each of these institutions he served with distinction and was greatly respected and appreciated by the faculty, administration, and students. He was active for many years in the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities in Washington, DC, and the Board of Directors of LCC International University in Lithuania.

Stanley's hobbies included amateur radio, collecting license plates, golf, and world travel, but his main goal and calling in life was to serve the Lord Jesus Christ. He was active in church leadership and music in each of the many places he lived, including the last years of his life at Providence Community Church in Crosslake, MN. He especially loved singing and listening to Christian anthems and hymns.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Susan Carlton Clark, of Emily, MN; daughter Rachel (husband Jason) Mohn of North Easton, MA; son Drew (wife Claire) Clark of Federal Way, WA; six grandchildren (Kyra, Karsten, Amara and Kavan Mohn, and Adelaide and Miriam Clark); 99-year-old father Douglas Alan Clark, of Carol Stream, IL; and by his identical twin brother, Stephen (wife Dawn) Clark of Wheaton, IL. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Campbell Clark (1987), and his older brother, Jonathan (wife Susan) Clark (2013).

A memorial service will be held at Emily Wesleyan Church in Emily, MN, on Saturday, October 8, at 3 p.m. Interment will be at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Emily, MN, at 11:30 a.m. the same day.
