Vernon "Mike" Steberg

Vernon D. "Mike" Steberg age 86 of Garrison died on January 25, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was born on July 5, 1924 in Wanamingo, MN to Alfred A. and Regina (Greseth) Steberg. He married Mernyce R. Nelson on March 1, 1943 in Rochester, MN. Mike was a WWII Marine Corp Veteran serving in the South Pacific Theater. He was retired member of the International Operator Engineer Local 49 with 25 years of service. Survivors include his wife Mernyce; 1 son, Michael "Mick" (Kathy) Steberg of Northfield; 1 brother Manton (Marion) Steberg of Zumbrota, MN; 1 sister, Irene Blomberg of Rochester; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be on 12 Noon Saturday, January 29 at the Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison Community Cemetery with full military honors given by the Garrison VFW. Friends may call on Saturday 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby. Once a Marine Always a Marine.
