Warren Posthumus

March 2, 1921 — July 9, 2016

Warren Posthumus, 95 of Crosby (formerly Bay Lake/Deerwood) died July 9, 2016 at Cuyuna Regional Care Center, Crosby, MN after a brief illness.

Warren was born on March 2, 1921 to William and Florence Posthumus in Silver Creek, MN. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1939. He married Eleanor L. Hansen on September 29, 1942 in Phoenix, AZ, the same day Warren graduated from Army Air Corp pilot training at Luke Field near Phoenix. Warren and Eleanor remained in Phoenix while he continued several additional months of training, after which Eleanor returned home to Edina while Warren served in the 14th Air Force in China. They were then stationed in Dayton, Ohio, and Dover, Delaware, until the war ended in 1945. They established their home in Edina, where they raised their family. Prior to his service in the Army Air Corp, Warren attended the University of Minnesota, studying engineering. After the war, Warren worked at Pako Corporation in Golden Valley, MN for 36 years, as Sales Engineer and later in Research and Development. During the late 50's and into the 60's he traveled for Pako in Europe, collaborating with European manufacturers of photo processing equipment. Upon Warren's retirement after 36 years at Pako, they moved to their home at Bay Lake, MN. He will be especially remembered for his adept ability to problem-solve, and for his gift of telling a story, leaving out no detail, especially dates, locations, facts and figures which were essential to the story and carefully catalogued in his head. What a memory! He also remembered people's names, and took every opportunity to stop and greet a friend or acquaintance. Eleanor gave out goodies, Warren imparted wisdom, always without judgement. He was active in Cascade Church and Deerwood Lakes Lions for most of the years he lived at Bay Lake. Two years after Eleanor's passing in 2007, Warren sold the Bay Lake home and moved to Heartwood in Crosby.

Warren is survived by two brothers, Gerald "Dutch" Posthumus, Rochester, MN, Allen (Joyce) Posthumus, Buffalo, MN; five children, Ruth E. (Dan) Monnier, Miami, Oklahoma, Steven R., Minnetonka, MN, Martin R. (Pattie Roggenkamp), Monticello, MN, Janet P. (Timothy J.) Dray, Minneapolis, MN and David R. (Tassie), Eden Prairie, MN; five grandchildren, Clint, Jennifer, Chris, Jason, and Sam; and nine great grandchildren. His presence in our lives will be greatly and deeply missed.

The family gratefully acknowledges all the expressions of sympathy, and the wonderful care he received at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center and the Cuyuna Regional Care Center, Crosby, MN.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood, MN, A½ mile north of Deerwood on Hwy 210. Friends may call 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, at a later date. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are with Koop Funeral Home in Crosby (218.546.5531).
