Wayne Leopold

Wayne G. Leopold, age 88 of Crosby, formally of Two Harbors and Detroit Lakes passed away on Tuesday, October 4th at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Wayne was born on March 1st, 1923 in Sanborn, Minnesota to Arthur and Emma Leopold. He graduated from Sanborn High School. Wayne was a WWII Army veteran and while serving in the 99th infantry division he participated in the Battle of the Bulge in France, Belgium, and Germany. Wayne was awarded a Purple Heart.

He earned an Industrial Arts degree from University of Wisconsin - Stout and a Masters degree from the University of Minnesota - Duluth. Wayne taught industrial education for forty years at Morgan and Two Harbors, MN and also taught driver education for many years.

On June 27th, 1947 Wayne was joined in marriage to June V. Zetterlund in Pipestone, Minnesota. Wayne and June raised four children in Two Harbors. During these years the family traveled extensively, hosted foreign exchange students, built several homes and supported the education of their children. Wayne and June recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary.

In retirement they traveled extensively, wintered in Arizona and greatly enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. Wayne was an active church member serving as the president of Bethlehem Lutheran - Two Harbors, building committee leader and working on many church improvement projects. He also led the construction of the Two Harbors Golf and Curling Facility and was an avid sports fan, fisherman and woodworker.

Wayne is survived by his wife June, brother LaMoine (Marguerite) - Sanborn and was preceded in death by his brother Melvin and sister Ethel Thram. Wayne and June's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are listed below.
