Bennie Hanson Obituary

Bennie Hanson of West Vally Township went to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, February 25, 2021, in the Care Center at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, MN, at 90 years and 26 days.

Bennie Hanson was born January 30, 1931, in Newfolden, MN, to Hartvig and Tena (Anderson) Hanson as the tenth of thirteen children. He attended Goodwill Country School and worked with his siblings on the family farm near Newfolden. Bennie served his country in the US Air Force until his honorable discharge on June 11, 1956. He then attended Agricultural Vocational School in Thief River Falls, MN. Upon completion, he purchased land near Newfolden, which he began clearing into farmland.

On December 21, 1963, Bennie married his sweetheart Lilly Lundgren in Thief River Falls. Together they renovated the house that Bennie had purchased with the farmland and made this their home, where they raised one son and six daughters.

Bennie and Lilly attended Newfolden Evangelical Free Church. Bennie's desire for others to know Christ motivated him to share his faith with everyone he met. He was bold with his faith and desired that others would understand the simplicity of the Gospel and how they too could have their sins forgiven.

Bennie enjoyed farming, hunting, and traveling. He also loved kids, especially the little ones, which would melt his heart and bring a big smile to his face. We miss him greatly and look forward to seeing him again.

Bennie is survived by his wife Lilly; one son, Brent (Andrea) Hanson of Newfolden; six daughters, Deb (Tim) Meyer of Welcome, Tami (Dale) Schneider of Thief River Falls, Karla (Mike) Palkie of Garrison, Kari (Kirby) Dembiczak of Halma, Brenda (Ryan) Williams of Barnum, Lynne (Sean) Mattern of East Grand Forks; three brothers, Earl (Janice) Hanson of Thief River Falls, Floyd (DeEtta) Hanson of Thief River Falls and Alfred (Dorothy) Hanson of Denver, CO; one sister, Clara (Burlin) Jacobson of Cottage Grove; twenty-nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Bennie in death are his parents; six brothers, Carl, Arnie, John, Ralph, Clarence, and Ernest Hanson; and two sisters, Adella Hanson and Beulah Bjornrud.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021, at the Newfolden Evangelical Free Church.  A visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden with military honors by the Otto-Knutson American Legion Post #427.
