Bruce Nelson Obituary

Bruce A. “Bud” Nelson, age 79 of Deerwood died on November 11, 2020 at his home in Deerwood. He was born on August 20, 1941 in Brainerd to John and Veronica (Filla) Nelson. Bud was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired Mechanical Engineer with Soo Line Railroad, Burlington Northern Railroad, Rescar and Livingston Rebuilt Center Railroads with 32 years of service. Bud was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Crosby, the Cuyuna Range Knights of Columbus, and the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443, Ironton. Bud had fierce love for his family and faith.

 

Bud is survived by his wife Linda; two sons, Kelly (Jill) Nelson of Gilman, MN and Louis (Carrie) Nelson of Fruita, CO; two daughters, Kristy (Mike) Driver of Fruita, CO and Andrea (Keith) Hedges of Great Falls, MT; one step-son, Reed (Melissa) Leonard of Rochester; two step-daughters, Valerie (Patrick Jones) Leonard of St. Louis Park and Michelle (Brock) Shuda of Arlington; three brothers, Dr. Gerald Nelson and James Nelson both of Crosby and Wayne (Mary Ann) Nelson of Buffalo; two sisters, Veronica Schemmel of Grand Rapids, MI and Scena Proodin of Crosby and seven grandchildren, Morgan (Rachel), Mallory, Tori, Maci, Alex, Ava, and Ella; and his extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Preceding Bud in death are his parents; and three brothers, Robert, Merlin “Kip” and Douglas “Dick” Nelson.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Crosby. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby with full military honors by the Myrin-James American Legion Post. A visitation will be on Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church from 4:00 p.m. to 7: 00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Please be prepared with social distancing and masks are required. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
