Ellen Harding Thatcher

Ellen Harding Thatcher age 92 of Mission Township went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 7, 2018 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.  She was born in Park City, MT on August 5, 1926 to John and Marie (Tomszak) Harding.  Ellen attended school in Park City, MT, graduating as class valedictorian.  After high school she had a year of training with Western Union and then worked for them for two years in Los Angeles during WWII. She married Joseph Thatcher II in June of 1946, they then moved to Crosby.   She worked 25 years for the First National Bank of Crosby and R.O. Lee Insurance Agency and then Jamie Koop Insurance.  She served as Mission Township Clerk for 17 years.  She was co-owner of Fools Lake Campground.  Ellen also served as a 4-H leader from 1960 thru 1967 and the Crow Wing County Fair Board.

Ellen’s greatest pleasure was serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Bible Baptist Church in Crosby, Faith Baptist Church in Brainerd and Ossipee Community Church. She enjoyed playing the piano for church services. Ellen was an avid postmark and stamp collector. She also enjoyed knitting, reading, and playing with her many flowers and her garden. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.  Ellen was very grateful for the excellent care she received at the CRMC and the Care Center staff.

Ellen is survived by one son, Joseph (Kathy) Thatcher of Crosby; one daughter, Dortha Thatcher of Brainerd; one grandson, Joseph (Jorden) Thatcher IV of Crosby; two great grandchildren, Joseph Thatcher V and Olivia Thatcher; one sister, Mary (Dave) Blanski of Chanhassen; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ellen in death are her parents; John Harding who immigrated from Frank, Russia and her mother Marie who immigrated from Charlotenberg, Germany; her 1sthusband, Joseph Thatcher II and 2ndhusband, Pastor Ewald Eisele; one sister, Alice Maxfield and one brother Harry Harding.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Ossipee Community Church. Burial will be at the Mission Township Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby and 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
