Hazel Zauhar Obituary

Hazel Zauhar, 99+, of Ironton, a loving mom, grandma, and great grandma, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022.  She was born on May 16, 1922, to Hans and Olive Olsen.  Hazel graduated from the Brainerd High School in 1940 and married Emil Zauhar, the love of her life, on October 20, 1945, in Edina.  Their love and dedication to each other was truly a life lesson.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby and the Myrin-James American Legion Auxiliary of Ironton, serving as secretary for many years.

Her interests included bowling, knitting, embroidering, sewing, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, Scrabble, drinking tea with friends, and watching the Twins, Vikings, and Lynx.  She loved to cook and bake and was an expert at making merry at Christmas.  Her 30 kinds of holiday cookies each year were enjoyed by many.

Hazel was deeply committed to her family and making a house a home.  She was extremely proud of her family and leaves behind a beautiful legacy.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Emil; her parents; siblings Mabel, Gladys, Martin, Fred and Alice; other relatives, and many dear friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her family; Children, Loretta (Dale) Rohwer of Plymouth; Sue (Bruce) Johnson of Lindstrom, Terry Zauhar (special friend Char Stender) of Hopkins; Grandchildren, Dana (Peter) Bolz. Jessica (Jared) Keller, Christopher (Jamie) Rohwer, Brett (Kaitlyn) Johnson, Troy (Tara) Zauhar; Great Grandchildren, Ryder and Greyson Keller, Violet and Jack Rohwer, Eleanor and Charlotte Bolz, and Juliet Hazel Johnson.

Hazel lived independently in her home with the help of amazing friends and family.  You made it possible for her to stay in the home she and Emil built in Ironton.  Her family is very grateful for the genuine love and friendship so many people shared with her through the years, especially after Emil died.  Your visits, cards, letters, phone calls, gifts, flowers, meals and other joys were a blessing.  She would be the first to say her life should be celebrated- a long and wonderful story of love, family, and friends.  We smile knowing that Dad is holding Mom’s hand again.

A Celebration of Hazel’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby.  Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby.  A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
