Maurice “Wolly” Harold Oman, 89, of Ironton, MN, died Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby. He was born on January 13, 1932, in Blackhoof Township, MN. Wolly grew up in the Barnum area and graduated from the Barnum High School. He served in the United States Army as Corporal and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. On September 10, 1955, Wolly married Helen Packard in Blackhoof Township, MN. They owned and operated the Crosby Ironton Dry Cleaners for 40 years, originally located in Ironton and then Crosby.
Wolly loved spending time with his family and friends at their cabin on Round Lake, especially the Soubas. He was known for being able to fix anything with nothing. Wolly was an active member of the community. He previously served as President of the Cuyuna Range Housing, Inc. Board of Directors, President of the Crosby Chamber of Commerce, and Chief of the Ironton Fire Department. He was also a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Myrin-James American Legion Post #443, Ironton and the Aitkin VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Anna Oman; siblings Edith (Herman) Peterson, George (Beatrice) Oman, Betty (Axel) Augustson, Roy Oman, Helen (Jerry) Hammitt, Edward (Helen) Oman, Leonard (Helen) Oman and Wendell Oman.
He will be lovingly remembered by wife of 66 years, Helen; daughters, Patrine (Warren) Turnbloom, Charlene (Michael) Rasmussen, and Deanna Oman; grandchildren, Dean Turnbloom and Lara Turnbloom; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Irondale Township with full military honors presented by the Myrin-James American Legion Post. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
