Shirley J. Malherek, 75 of Riverton, a beloved wife and mother originated from East Chain, MN. She and husband Tim relocated to Riverton in 1979. An active outdoor enthusiast, she and Tim regularly camped, hunted, fished and always appreciated the beauty of the Cuyuna Range and the resiliency of it’s inhabitants. Being adventurist by nature she and her husband of 57 years traveled across the nation and world exploring various environments and cultures. Between SCUBA diving the Grand Cayman Islands to walking the Roman Coliseum, each day was interpreted as an opportunity for another adventure.
Shirley will be remembered as an avid bird watcher, wild life enthusiast and essential member of Riverton’s community, regularly providing administrative support to the city council.
Shirley lost her 6-month battle with cancer on August 3, 2020 while resting peacefully, close to family and friends and under conditions she set. She is survived by her husband, Tim; son, Jeff and his wife Marti of Spokane, WA. In honoring Shirley’s wishes, no funeral service or viewing will be offered, the Malherek family ask to be allowed to mourn in private.
